Words That Wow: 7 Strategies to Uplevel Your Writing Today

Are you ready to elevate your writing skills and captivate your audience? As a coach, mastering the art of written communication can be a game-changer for your success.

However, writing persuasively, clearly, and succinctly is both an art and a science. And in the words 1 of my Business Building Breakthrough Clients told me, “Writing my sales page was by far harder than writing my thesis for my college master’s degree!”

No worries if you’re worried your writing skills (or lack thereof) will hold you back in your business. In this blog, I'll delve into 7 juicy strategies and tools that will empower you to become a more compelling and effective writer. Whether you're looking to connect with clients, refine your message, or simply boost your writing prowess, these tips will be your secret weapon.

7 Strategies to uplevel your writing:

1. Client Interviews

Interviewing your clients and prospects is 1 of THE best ways to become a better writer?

Why?

Because you simply use the words, phrases, examples, and language they use in your writing. Their words actually create your content and when you do that, you’ll have them saying, “Wow, it’s like she read my mind, I gotta work with her!”

2. Google Voice Typing

As a Copywriter helping my Wellness Coaching Clients, 1 thing I’ve definitely noticed is there’s often a disconnect between what they tell me in our sessions about their offers, who their ideal client is, what they’re passionate about, etc., and when they go to actually write those things down.

When they’re talking freely about what they're passionate about, they sound excited, clear, and specific. When they go to write it down though, it’s like that clarity and specificity gets replaced by either jargony words (often trying to sound like an expert) or vague language (trying not to exclude anyone).

However, what actually resonates is what they say. SO to harness those words, use Google Voice Typing.

When you’re working from a Google Doc, simply go to the “tools” tab and select “voice typing.”You then just click to speak. Anytime we can just speak from the heart without editing ourselves, it’s generally always going to resonate more with our clients, so give Google Voice Typing a try!

3. audio pen

Are you familiar with the excellent AI resource called AudioPen! It's perfect for brainstorming and organizing your thoughts.

AudioPen's tagline is: "The easiest way to convert messy thoughts into clear text.

AudioPen can even be used as a voice-activated journal, allowing you to record your entries in a brain dump style. The best part? It converts these recordings into readable paragraphs and summaries that make sense.

I created this quick walkthrough video to show you how AudioPen works...it's THAT good:

4. Chat GPT

I’m sure by now you’ve at least heard of ChatGPT, but have you been using it?

I absolutely love ChatGPT to help me come up with compelling headlines, subject lines, and blog ideas.

But 1 of my favorite ways to use it as an admittedly long-winded writer, is to copy and paste something I’ve written and ask ChatGPT to write it more succinctly. I also include the tone I want, which is usually conversational.

I once heard ChatGPT being described to writing as the invention of the calculator was to Math. We still need to learn and use Math, but the calculator has made that so much easier and faster…much like ChatGPT!

5.Throw Out Traditional Grammar Rules

Many of us have spent the better part of 15+years learning proper English rules and grammar, which has come in handy for traditional “school” writing. However, writing online is completely different; it’s like a whole new language!

Writing online and writing persuasively to connect emotionally with your audience requires you to throw out most traditional grammar rules and write exactly how you talk. For instance, use contractions, numerical numbers, 1 sentence paragraphs, and bullet points; stuff that’s typically a “no-no”  in academic writing.

Working with a Copywriter is perhaps the most effective way to improve your writing as you’ll get an expert trained in persuasive writing and the art and science of crafting words to elicit a specific action, like buy now or subscribe.
