The 2 most important goals in your health coaching business
It’s super easy to get overwhelmed building your online coaching business trying to do all.the.things and wear all the hats (hello marketer, content creator, coach, provider, graphic designer, bookkeeper, trainer, administrative assistant, social media manager, copywriter…).
That’s why being clear on your 2 most important business goals is critical. It helps you wade through your never-ending to-do list and get clear on what truly matters.
The 2 most important business goals are
Revenue generation
List building
Revenue Generation
Why is revenue generation important in your business? Well, without bringing in revenue, you essentially don’t have a business; you have a hobby. While there’s nothing wrong with making health coaching your hobby, if you want to bring in actual income and help support (or solely support) yourself and your family, it’s critical to see your health coaching business as just that: a business.
Bringing in income also allows you to hire help in your business so you can continue to grow (aka bring in more revenue if that’s your goal) and free up more of your time and energy to avoid burnout and doing everything in your business.
Examples of Revenue Generating Tasks
Creating offers/products/online courses
Conducting discovery (sales) calls
Hosting workshops or webinars
Affiliate marketing
Making offers regularly to your customers (can do this via social media and your email list)
Reaching out to past clients, workshop attendees, interested ideal clients you’ve connected with on social media and see if they need your services
Increasing your prices
List Building
Building your email list is a critical step in the growth of your business. One way to do this is to create a freebie/opt-in/lead magnet (something of value for your ideal audience) in exchange for their email address.
Then your goal is to continually nurture this audience through providing additional value, promotions, and support so you can stay front of mind when they are ready to invest in solving their challenge that you solve.
Building your email list is your biggest asset in your business (even more so than social media) because you own your list, whereas with social media, you do not. Instagram could decide at any point to change the algorithm or another platform could suddenly overtake the one you use and have spent months or even years growing.
Examples of List Building Tasks
Creating valuable content for your audience (and post social media & email list)
Creating a FB or Mighty Network group
Participating in other’s FB groups (particularly those in your niche and just connecting and being of service, as typically you cannot self promote)
Blogging and/or podcasting
Getting in front of others’ audiences through things like guest blogging and podcasting
Creating valuable lead magnets and promote consistently
Genuinely connecting with your ideal clients and potential collaborators on social media
The cool thing about these 2 goals is that they tie so well together! Building your email list generally means more revenue in your business and more revenue in your business means you can more easily build your email list (whether that means via purchasing ads or hiring a marketing expert). Many of the tasks I’ve mentioned for both revenue generating tasks and list building tasks overlap.
