Feeling Stuck? Here’s How to Plan for a Breakthrough Year In Your Coaching Biz🌟

If you’re a new coach or course creator, setting business goals might feel overwhelming.

There’s so much to do, and it’s easy to wonder if you’re focusing on the right things. But here’s the good news: building a successful business isn’t about doing everything—it’s about focusing on the things that will move you forward, one step at a time.

In this blog, I’ll walk you through how to set clear, actionable goals that work for you, not against you. By the time you finish reading, you’ll have a simple, practical plan for making 2025 the year you build a solid foundation for your coaching or course creation business.

Step 1: Reflect on What’s Working (and What’s Not)

Before you set goals for 2025, take a moment to think about where you are right now. What’s been working well in your business so far? What’s felt like a struggle?

If you’re brand new, this might mean looking at what’s worked in your personal growth, your audience-building efforts, or even the steps you’ve taken to learn about running a business. No matter how small, every step counts!

Questions to ask yourself:

  • What am I most proud of in my business so far?

  • What’s been the hardest part?

  • Where do I need the most support or improvement?

Pro Tip: Don’t overthink this step. Grab a notebook and jot down your thoughts—it’s just about getting clear on where you’re starting.

Step 2: Get Clear on Your Big Vision

What does a thriving business look like to you? This is your chance to dream big. Maybe you want to sign your first paying client, launch a mini-course, or finally feel confident talking about your offer online.

Your vision doesn’t need to be complicated. It just needs to reflect what success would mean for you by the end of 2025.

Examples of big vision goals for new coaches:

  • Sign 5-8 paying clients in 2025

  • Launch a simple group program or course

  • Grow your email list to 500 subscribers

  • Feel confident selling your services without feeling “salesy”

Pro Tip: Your vision should excite and motivate you, but it doesn’t have to be perfect or massive. Focus on what feels doable and aligned with where you are now. Please do NOT get caught in the comparison trap or feel you’re behind; you’re right on time!

Step 3: Break It Down Into Small, Simple Goals

Big dreams are great, but they can feel overwhelming. That’s why you need to break them down into smaller, bite-sized goals you can tackle one step at a time.

Start by thinking about what needs to happen each quarter or month to bring you closer to your vision.

Example:

  • Big Vision Goal: Sign 10 clients in 2025

    • Quarterly Goal: Sign 3 clients in the first quarter

    • Monthly Goal: Sign 1 new client/month

      • Host a free workshop or webinar each month

        • Partner with another professional who serves your audience, but in a little different way and offer to host a free monthly workshop or webinar for their audience

      • Pitch to 2-4 podcast hosts that serve your audience and guest on their podcast

    • Weekly Goal:

      • Post 3X/week on Instagram, engage with your audience, and invite them to book discovery calls

      • Let those in your circle (e.g., family, friends, neighbors, past clients, co-workers past and present, etc.) know who you serve and ask if they know 1-2 people who fit your niche they could share your information with.

      • Reach out to 2 new professionals/week who serve your audience but in a little different way to let them know you’d like to refer to them and share more about what you do and see if there’s an opportunity to collaborate or perhaps offer a free workshop or webinar for their audience.

      • Some ideas of professionals to reach out to: gyms, yoga studios, hair salons, chiropractors, doctors, OBs, functional medicine doctors, naturopaths, schools, churches, etc.

Pro Tip: Focus on just 2-3 small goals each month. The simpler your plan, the more likely you are to follow through.

Step 4: Focus on Income-Generating Activities

As a new coach or course creator, it’s tempting to spend hours perfecting your website, designing logos, or creating endless freebies. But here’s the truth: none of that matters if you’re not making offers or connecting with potential clients.

Income-generating activities to prioritize:

  • Talking about your offers consistently on social media

  • Inviting people to book discovery calls or check out your services

  • Networking in online communities where your ideal clients hang out

  • Creating a simple sales page or landing page (it doesn’t need to be fancy!)

Pro Tip: Ask yourself daily, “What’s one thing I can do today to help someone and move my business forward?” Then do that.

Step 5: Set Up Simple Systems

You don’t need to invest in fancy tools or complicated processes when you’re just starting out. But a few simple systems can help you stay organized and save time.

Here are some beginner-friendly tools to consider:

  • A free scheduling tool like Calendly to book client calls

  • Google Drive or Notion to organize client documents and notes

  • Canva to create simple graphics for social media

  • An email marketing platform like ConvertKit

Pro Tip: Start small. Focus on tools that help you save time so you can spend more energy on growing your business.

Step 6: Build Consistency with Weekly and Monthly Check-Ins

One of the biggest challenges for new coaches is staying consistent. That’s why setting up regular check-ins with yourself is so important.

At the end of each week or month, ask yourself:

  • What did I accomplish this week/month?

  • What worked well?

  • What felt hard or frustrating?

  • What’s my focus for the next week/month?

Pro Tip: Keep these check-ins short and sweet—15-30 minutes is all you need. It’s just about staying on track and making small adjustments as you go. This is a time to get curious and NOT critical!

Step 7: Celebrate Every Win

As a new coach or course creator, every win matters. Whether it’s your first social media post, your first email subscriber, or your first paying client, take a moment to celebrate.

Recognizing your progress, no matter how small, will keep you motivated and remind you why you started this journey in the first place.

Pro Tip: Set up a reward system for yourself. Maybe it’s a coffee date, a new notebook, or just taking a day off to relax. Celebrating keeps you energized and excited about what’s next.

Also remember to celebrate the action you took, not the outcome! For instance, celebrate that you shared a new offer regardless if anyone invested; celebrate doing your first workshop with 2 people in attendance. You’re learning a must have life skill of getting more comfortable being uncomfortable which is absolutely essential as an entrepreneur.
