3 Strategies to Simplify Your Coaching Business
I’ve yet to work with a health coaching client who isn’t feeling completely overwhelmed and confused about how (and where)to create their online coaching business.
It’s not just the overwhelm and confusion that’s the problem…it’s that these emotions cause them frustration, procrastination, and doubts about if they can even be a successful wellness coach.
Can you relate?
I certainly can as that’s exactly how I felt in my coaching business the first couple of years. It wasn’t until I finally invested in my first business coach that the overwhelm an confusion began to morph into confidence and clients.
If you want to start a health coaching business, but don't know how to get started, then this post is for you.
I'm sharing 3 strategies to help keep things simple in your coaching business:
Niche down
One thing at a time
Stay in your lane
Strategy #1: Niche down
When I first started my wellness coaching business, I started with F-I-V-E different niches!
Needless to say, trying to create programs, content, and marketing for all of these niches was completely overwhelming and nearly led to the demise of my business.
It wasn’t until I niched down to helping wellness coaches build their online coaching business foundation that I lit up and saw traction.
I see a fear of niching down all.the.time as a business coach. There’s 4 main fears I see around niching down. If you want to learn what these 4 fears are and better yet, get fixes to these fears so you can confidently niche down, check out my Course, Nail Your Niche Now, where you’ll also learn how to choose a profitable niche, get 25 strategies to get paying clients, and so much more!
I also commonly see coaches with a niche that’s too vague; for instance, working with Moms or busy professionals.
The issue is once you go to market these niches, create programs to help them achieve the specific results they most desire, and connect emotionally with them, your copy is vague and there’s disconnect.
When your prospect doesn’t connect emotionally with your copy or worse, they feel confused or overwhelmed because you’re talking in vague generalities and platitudes, they won’t buy from you…meaning not only will you not be able to make money, but you won’t be able to help them.
Because a Mom of 2 toddlers is at a very different stage and has unique challenges and desires than a newly empty nest Mom. Your copy needs to speak directly to your specific ideal client, their unique pain points, and the specific desires they most want.
You want your idea client thinking, “Wow, it’s like she read my mind! I gotta work with her!”
A good reminder here is “The riches are in the niches.”
Strategy #2: 1 Thing at a Time
It’s critical to focus your time and energy on 1 thing at a time, particularly when it comes to your marketing.
My health coaching clients often think they need to be doing:
TikTok
IG
YouTube Channel
Their own podcast
Weekly FaceBook Lives
Blogging
Multiple programs for their clients
Posting daily on social media
And on and on…
Give yourself permission to release this overwhelm, especially because it’s not only untrue that you need to show up everywhere, but it’s also the quickest way to burn out!
Instead, choose ONE way of marketing that suits you best, such as writing a blog (and particularly using Pinterest to boost engagement), creating YouTube videos, or recording a podcast AND be consistent with it.
The beauty of creating this kind of content is that it’s considered long-form content, meaning that it’s content that can be found by your prospects indefinitely to continue to bring you leads on autopilot.
Whereas with social media, your content typically doesn’t last very long as new posts are constantly being added and yours will inevitably get buried (and quite quickly).
Once you create your blog, video, or podcast, the key is to repurpose it.
You can take this long-form content and create multiple social media posts from it, a newsletter, ebook, mini-course, a bonus in your program, etc.
So each piece of content you create gets a ton more mileage!
Another key is to be consistent with your content, ideally reaching out to your audience at least weekly. But start with whatever you can be consistent with and work your way towards weekly engagement.
The tip to do 1 thing at a time also applies to creating offers. Instead of trying to create multiple services for your niche. Start with 1 offer, get really good at selling it, and then see how you can repurpose it in a different way or add on an additional service or offer for your niche.
Strategy #3: Stay in Your Lane
As a mental health therapist and mindset coach, I just had to include a mindset tip!
So many entrepreneurs overwhelm themselves because they’re stuck comparing themselves to their fellow entrepreneurs and then feel like they’re behind or won’t ever do it as well as who they’re following.
This is absolutely detrimental to the success and momentum of your business!
If you can check out what others are doing with curiosity and to learn, that’s super helpful.
But if you feel inadequate and overwhelmed, that definitely won’t serve you.
Keep in mind that every entrepreneur is on his or her own journey and time frame.
We all have different goals, time, energy, resources, etc., and we often don’t know what goes on behind the scenes of someone else’s business.
You could be following a seemingly uber successful entrepreneur only to find out it took them YEARS to get to where they are with lots of blood, sweat, and tears along the way…okay, hopefully not blood, but you get my point.
Especially as a new entrepreneur, don’t fall into the trap of comparing yourself at day 1 or 100 in business with another entrepreneur who’s been at it for 5+ years or more!
Ultimately YOU get to choose whether you are overwhelmed in your business or not.
YOU get to choose a simple business or you can choose to overcomplicate things.
If you find yourself in the latter category, there’s no need to beat yourself up, that’s an opportunity to see how you can simplify.
